Mona Lisa Painting Survives 500 Years

There is possibly no other painting in the World that has under gone more extensive conservation treatments then the Mona Lisa painting to insure it's preservation. The first extensive cleaning was conducted 300 years after Leonardo da Vinci first painted this Masterpiece. In 1809 the painting was given it's first cleaning and then re-varnished to bring back the brilliant colors that had faded over the years. Almost 100 years later, the Mona Lisa under went another series of conservation treatments which included water color touch-ups caused by a crack in the original panel. Eugine Denizard, who was given this Great Honor to professionally re-create the hand of Leonardo da Vinci as we'll as re-varnish the edges of the picture that was not possible to reach in the original frame that has sine been removed.
When the Mona Lisa painting was stolen in 1911, it was missing for 2 years before it was recovered and eventually traced back to a man named Vincenzo Peruggia who was an employee at the Louvre at the time. Knowing the layout of the Gallery, he hid within the building until it closed and simply walked right out the front door carrying one of the most valuable and most controversial paintings of all time. shortly after recovering the Mona Lisa, Eugine Denizard was again called in to restore the famous painting. This time Denizard used no solvents and lightly touched-up several new scratches that were evident after being recovered. The Mona Lisa was again touched up by Jean Gabriel Goulinat in 1956 after the two vandals tried to distroy the painting within the same year.

Biography of Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci was born April 15, 1452 and died May 2, 1519. In his 67 years of life he was able to become a master in a wide range of subject's other then becoming one of the Greatest Painters in History. Some of his many talents include becoming an established Inventor, Sculptor, Mathematician, architect designer, writer, musician and of course a Great Painter for which he is most famous for. This self described Renaissance Man is still to this day regarded as one of the most diversely talented person to ever walk on the face of this Earth.

First Period of Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo was raised my his Mother and moved to Florence, Italy in 1466 where he first started working under Verroccio and quickly made friends with Lorenzo de Credi, Botticelli and Ghirlandaio who were already famous Artists during at this time period. Verroccio was so impressed with Leonado da Vinci's impressive painting skills at such an early age, he let his new apprentice paint the now famous Angel along with a few landscape scenes in Verrocchio's 'Baptism of Christ' Masterpiece Painting. After six successful years working under Verroccio, Leonardo finally was able to register with the Painter's Guild in 1477. One of his most famous paintings during this period is ironically the unfinished 'Adoration of the Magi' painting that was still commissioned by the Monks of San Donato a Scopeto.

Middle Period of Leonardo da Vinci

After Leonardo da vince compled his apprenticeship in Florence, Leonardo moved to Milan in 1482 to the court of Ludovico Sforza which he remained for the next 16 years. During this period he was the court artist which he remained for several of those years. This is also the time when he was known for painting the Famous Artworks of Trattato della pittura and one of the two famous Paintings of Madonna of the Rocks. In 1488 Leonardo da Vinci became interested in Art Culture and drew up his first plans for the tambour and dome for the cathedral within the court of Milan. The township was so impressed with Leonardo da vinci's drawings and ideas, he was hired in 1490 as the consulting engineer to over-see the restoration of both the Cathedral at Paris and the Cathedral at Piacenza.
In 1495 Leonardo began work on the very famous painting Fresno of the Last Supper and it wasn't completed until 1498. unfortunately even though this painting still exists, it has been badly damaged over the years. In 1999 the fresno of the last supper underwent extensive restoration but not even that was enough to bright back the brilliant colors that only Leonardo da Vinci could paint. After a brief stint when Leonardo entered the service of Cesare Borgia as a Military Engineer, Leonardo returned to Milan in 1506 and was engaged by Charles d'Amboise coming from no other then the French King Louis X11. During this time period he was able to put many of his skills he had already mastered including his architect skills, engineering and the various scientific experiments in botany, geology, hydraulics, mechanics and mathematics.

in 1513 Leonardo headed to Rome, Italy where his good friend and the new elected medici Pope known as Leo-x and his brother Giuliano now resided. The Artist's competition was very fierce within the Vatican where he now competed with the likes of Michelangelo and Raphael. Leonardo did various engineering and architectural projects throughout the Cathedral as we'll found time to work on some of his most valuable paintings. The famous painting St. John the baptist (louvre) was one such painting done during this time. Of course it goes without saying the the Most famous Painting in the World, The Mona Lisa painting, was also painted in this this period. Around 1515, Leonardo moved to the Castle of Cloux which is outside of Amboise, and lived the remainder of his life surrounded by his Life's Work which he continued to his last days here on earth.

At an early age, Warhol was diagnosed with a nervous system disease that caused him to involuntary move his body around. Young Warhol not having many friends or going to School like most other kids, relied heavily on his imagination to keep him occupied. Andy loved to listen to the radio and was fascinated with Movie Stars which he would cut pictures out of magazines and place all around him. Warhol was also deeply into drawing and shown impressive artistic abilities even at such an early age. He would later go on to attend the School of Fine Arts at the Carnegie Institute of Technology where he first studied Commercial Art. After graduating, Andy Warhol moved to new York City in 1949 and started a career in Advertising and illustrations for a magazine publisher. Warhol was also hired by RCA Records to design Album Covers using his realistic art painting abilities.

Salvador Dali was born May 11,1904 in Figueres, Spain. Both his Mother Ana Maria, and Father Salvador Dali i Cusi, encouraged Salvador's natural artistic abilities seen at a very early age. Very little information was available on the Cubist style of painting in Madrid at the time but that was little deterrent to the young Dali. He was an instant success with his fellow piers. He would stay at the Art School for the entire 4 years but ended up getting expelled shortly before taking the final exam. Dali was heard saying that no one that worked there was competent enough to examine his work. Shortly after leaving the Art School, Salvador Dali went to Paris where he meets none other then Pablo Picasso himself. Dali would go on to paint several pieces of art work greatly influenced by Picasso over the next few years upon their meeting.
In 1931 Salvador Dali Paints one of His Most Famous Paintings the 'The Persistence of Memory" also known as the 'Melting Clock's Painting'. This painting boosts Dali's reputation 10 fold and demand his art paintings continues to grow. In 1934 the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased 'The Persistence of Memory' where it continues to be on display. With the help of a very wealthy Man, Edward James, who was also one of Dali's main collectors, he emerged in the Art World as a major contender. Salvador would go on to paint another famous painting the 'Swans Reflecting Elephants'where he uses Edward James within the painting. Dali would go on to create over 1500 paintings in his lifetime until his last known painting, 'The Swallows Tail' was completed in 1983.
The Largest collection of Salvador Deli Art Work is located at the Dali Theatre and Museum in his home town Figueres, Spain which he created and at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. His museum in St. Petersburg displays seven of the eighteen known Masterwork Art Paintings Deli created in his lifetime.

Claude Monet was born November 14, 1840 in Paris, France. Monet grew up quickly and first attended the Le Havre School of the Arts in 1851 where he was already we'll known for selling charcoal caricatures to the locals that fell in love with this young Monet's artwork. In 1857 Monet met a gentleman by the name of Eugine Bouvdin who first introduced Monet to use oil paints in creating outdoor scenes. Claude's Mother died when he was only 16 years old and shortly there after is when Claude went to the Famous Louvre in Paris, France to study other Famous Painters of the time. Claude Monet lived in Paris, France for several years frequently visiting the Louvre and befriending many of the local Artists including the famous artist Edouard Manet.
After a brief stint in the Calvary, Claude Monet went on to a University to study Art. Not happy with his studies, Monet became a student of the Great Charles Gleyre who was experimenting in new styles of painting. He also befriended 3 other local painters by the names of Frederic Bazille, Alfred Sisley and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Together this team of painting artist's kept experimenting with light effects consisting of using broken colors with fast paste brush strokes which is now known as Impressionism style of painting.

Claude Monet's First Famous Painting

The first painting that Monet painted that brought him the recognition of his unique style, was a painted in 1866 of his future Wife Carmille Donciux. Monet called it "The Women in the Green Dress" or simply "Carmelle". Monet's Wife also went on to pose for other famous paintings including "The Women in the Garden" and "On the bank of the Seine". Monet's different techniques of using brilliant colors of light within his paintings was not yet we'll accepted in the Art Community and in 1871 Claude Monet's paintings were refused to be admitted in the Royal Academy Exhibition. Some say Monet's paintings were we'll ahead of it's time.
Claude Monet went on to paint several very famous paintings in the 1870's including his Sons portrait "Jean Monet on his Hobby Horse" , "The Artists House at Argenteuil" , "Madame Monet in a Japanese Costume" and the very famous painting "Camille Monet on her deathbed" which Monet finished painting shortly before she died in 1879. Claude Monet would later go on to Marry Alice Hoschede who helped him raise his two sons Jean and Michael along with 6 children of her own. In 1883 moved his Family to Normandy where he planted a very large garden that was his inspiration of many of his famous paintings he painted until his death in 1926. In his own backyard is where he painted the famous painting series of the Haystack which he painted several times from different points of view and at different times of the day to reflect the bright daylight colors. Monet also painted several other famous art paintings including the Water Lillies and several paintings of the Seine which ran through his property. Monet's famous garden and water Lilly pond is now one of the main attractions for tourist's when visiting Giverny.
Several of Monet's Paintings now command Multi-Million Dollar price tags which attracts art collectors from all around the World. One of his famous paintings, the "Falaises près de Dieppe (Cliffs near Dieppe)" has been stolen on two different occasions within the last 10 years adding to the mystique of Monet's paintings. It first vanished in 1998 when the museum curator was convicted of taking the painting and again in 2007 which to this day is still a mystery to it's location.
Claude Monet set a New World Record for His Painting of the "Le bassin aux nymphéas" which was painted on his farm in 1873 and part of his Water Lilly Collection. The painting sold at Christies Auction House in 2008 for a record $80.4 Million Dollars making it his most valuable painting to date. Monet is one of the few artists where several of his paintings have sold in excess of 8 figures for a single painting.
