Most Famous Art Museums Around the World

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located in New York City featuring over 130,00 works of Art with over 2 Million object's in their permanent collection. A few of the most famous painter's include John Frederick Kensett, Joseph Fagnani, Jasper Francis Cropsey, Louis Lang, Edwin White, George Fuller, George Inness, Alexander H. Wyant, Daniel Huntington, Charles Loring Elliott, Gilbert Stuart, David Pell Secor, Thomas Hovenden and Thomas Cole.
Museum of Modern Art is also located in New York City has a collection of over 5,000 famous artist's with over 25,000 paintings total. The entire collection consists of art paintings, drawings, sculpture's, photography and famous prints.
Smithsonian Institute is located in Washington D.C. which is the Largest Museum consisting of 16 separate complexes full of art work surrounded by the National Zoo. The Museums include the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Anacostia Community Museum, National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of the American Indian, National Portrait Gallery, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, National Postal Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, National Air and Space Museum, National Zoological Park, Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery, National Museum of African Art, National Museum of American History, Behring Center, Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution Building, the Castle and the Arts and Industries Building.
The Louvre Museum in Paris has the Honors of hosting the most famous painting in the World, "The Mona Lisa". The entire art collection consists of over 35,000 works of art in 8 different department's covering over 60,000 square yards of exhibitions. The departments include Near Eastern Antiquities, Egyptian Antiquities, Greek, Entruscan and Roman Antiquities, Islamic Art, Sculptures, Prints and Drawings and of course several famous and extremely valuable Paintings.
The State Hermitage Museum is located in St. Petersburg consisting of 6 very large buildings along the River Neva which was the Russian Cesar winter palace dating back to 1754. The entire collection consists of over 3 million works of Art dating back to the stone Age. In 1764 the Russian Empress Catherine the Great purchased a very large collection of Western European Paintings that has continued to grow into what is now one of the largest art collections in the World.
The Guggenheim located in Bilbao, Spain is home to some of the most famous paintings of the 20th Century. Among a vast collection of valuable paintings, the Gussenheim is also we'll known for their conservation techniques to preserve works of art for centuries to come.

Polo Museale Fiorentino is located in Florence, Italy show casing some of Italy's most famous artist's in its collection of Primitive and Renaissance paintings of all time. Some of the famous artist's include works by Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Fra Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio.
The Vatican Museums consist of 22 separate museums in Rome. This huge collection possibly has more pieces of art work that is indeed priceless dating as far back as 705 B.C. from the Roman Empire. Some of the Must See Museums would include the Egyptian Museum, Chiaramonti Museum, the Museum of Popes, Gregorian Museum of Etruscan Art, Antiquarian Romanum, Gallery of Candelabra, Gallery of Tapestries, Gallery of Ancient Maps, Collection of Modern Religious Art, The Sistine Chapel, The Vatican picture Gallery, Archaeological Museum and the relatively new Carriage Pavilion.
